Long time no post!
Poor, neglected Eljay! I read my flist, but this morning I saw that I'd not posted anything in a year and a half. Dang!

Anywho, I wanted to post something, albeit nothing much, so the Eljay bots wouldn't delete me. :)

We got a prom dress for my daughter, Kately. Such a big to-do, this prom dress buying adventure.

The dress is on an elevated mannequin, so you can't really see the bodice, but it is aqua, navy and silver crystals and sequins.

Poor neglected Eljay!
I come to LJ to read every single day because I love keeping up with you guys in my Friend thread, but I rarely post. Blame it on Facebook!

I'm baking all day (Toll House, cinnamon cakes, Tres Leches), and hopefully will get some time to read. I'm currently attempting Pride and Prejudice. I find that the longer I read, the easier I can process the writing style. Sheesh! I have to wrap my brain around the old-fashioned-ness. <-- prolly not a real word. I love the movie with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy. When I finish P&P, I'll read Sense and Sensibility. I love that movie, too, with Hugh Grant as Edward Ferrars.

Hugs to all of you, my LJ friends, and a very Merry Christmas!

Adam Lambert
I am sure squee-ing all over Adam Lambert. Holy smokes that man is beautiful. Of course it caused a pretty heated argument between Harry and Draco...

Just beautiful!
His performance in HBP was outstanding. Conflicted, scared, filled with doubt and rage...

I've got it bad. Still. After all these years.

The Sookie books
Anyone reading Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire Series, otherwise known as the Sookie Stackhouse books?

They are a fun read, and Ms. Harris oftentims is quite witty. Although I did find her writing style hard to get used to.

I became interested in these books after watching a few episodes of HBO's "True Blood." TB is loosely (very loosely) based on the books.

I like "True Blood" better!
Which came first, the chicken or the egg, Dead Until Dark by Charlaine Harris or Twilight by Stephanie Meyer? We finished watching season one of "True Blood" last night. "True Blood" is the HBO series based on Harris' novels. I smelled a rat, so I googled "Similarities between True Blood and Twilight" and got 68,000 hits of this very discussion. I discovered that Dead Until Dark was published in 2003 and Twilight in 2005. I am amazed there hasn't been a giant bruhaha. It wasn't an official site where I read the publish dates, BTW, so I'm wondering if the info is correct. How does one find that out? Is there a librarian in the house? *snert*

I'm not talking minor similarities. I haven't read Harris' books, but I have read the Twilight series. We're talking major, major similarities between plotline of "True Blood" and Twilight. Methinks I shall read the Harris books now.

This is really amazing to me.

zhie wrote a funny post about Mary Sue and narcissism and being a fan of one's own writing. I really get a kick out of her LJ. :)

I've never understood the hatred of Mary Sue. Besides, who's to say a story IS a Mary Sue?

Oh, wait.

I read Twilight.

Traveling with teens is so much easier than toddlers. I remember having to entertain them on long drives. Now they sleep most of the way, and when they aren't sleeping, they're listening to their I-Pods.

The condo was perfect:

Clean, well-stocked, and only one block to the beach. It saves money being able to have two meals at 'home' and one out. Having a full kitchen is a must. Next year, however, we'll find a place with a washer and dryer as well. We really needed to be able to wash towels and swim suits.

For four days we swam, went on a dolfin-watching cruise, a snorkeling adventure, ate at great resturants and lolled on the beach. Terry got the kids boogie boards and I gave it a shot; it was much harder than it looked! I finally realized I was flailing, not swimming, and gave up. We laughed and laughed.

There was a great on-the-beach bar with loud music and a dance floor that I know Joseph, Sarah and Jennifer will love. We REALLY want our extended family to go with us next year.

The night before we left, there was a fireworks display over the Bay. They really put on a big production! It was fun to watch the party boats (you can book a fireworks-watching cruise) out in the Bay in front of us. One of them had strobes and dance music. Those revelers were LOUD! Both my kids wanted to be on that boat.

I love going down to the Rio Grande Valley. I lived there the first twelve of my forty-seven years, but I still get a feeling of home when I visit.

Sure can't wait til next year!

Like second breakfast
Since I've been working 4/10s, I have two Saturdays each week. Now I know how the Hobbits must have felt when they were eating "second breakfast." Awesome!

Since I can't do any running around what-so-ever Monday through Thursday, I'm finding that my Fridays are packed with errands. Yesterday I had my nails filled, got a haircut, got a new phone, (I had had my phone for almost six years and it was on its last legs.) Here's a picture:

I got the purple one. And Kately is having to show me how to navigate around it. Did you know that it is almost impossible to buy a 'plain' phone? Geez... The Star Trek PADD is just around the corner. Oh, WAIT! The I-Phone is just like a PADD.

Today we're going to finish uprooting the ceramic tile from the back patio and prepare to over-lay and stain it in time for Parker's graduation party.

My mother-in-law lost her bid for Mayor. Thank goodness! Last time she was mayor she got run down by a deputy sheriff in a squad car. He swears it was an accident. But he fled the scene. Then he returned to ask, "Ms. JoAnn, did I hit you with the squad car?" ACK!

I'm expecting a call later this morning from a young lady named Carissa. She is a college student and fellow member of Sam's Cafe at copperbadge. Kately and Amber are sitting for pictures for Carissa's college photography class. Seems fun to me, and it helps Carissa with her class.

I've an appointment at a Medifast clinic a week from yesterday. Geez... It's a constant battle of the bulge for me.

Reading at El-jay
I find it so very frustrating to try to read a chaptered fic here at LJ when the author doesn't provide links to the next chapter.

I came across a story I'd really like to read, but.. WHAT THE HELL?? I can't find chapter two.

Oh, and..

David Alpay
I first saw this man in Showtime's "The Tudors," where he portrayed Mark Smeaton. Then last night he was in LMN's "Unstable." This man is so pretty. I googled him, and he is seemingly unknown. No fan club, only a smattering of pics available. Geez... He is a stunner. AND! He is an excellent actor. I sure hope to see more of him.

Your result for The Harry Potter Husband Test...

Mrs. Harry Potter

Your perfect HP man is Harry Potter.

You like a guy who's not afraid to fight evil when evil picks a fight. There's a lot to say for bravery in the face of overwhelming odds, even if it does come with a prejudice against people who don't fit into his conception of "good guy" and a penchant for hurling objects across rooms when he gets angry. But in fairness, for an orphan who's spent the better part of his life being hunted by the most evil wizard in existence, he's turned out pretty well. Just be prepared to name your kids after everyone he's ever lost, because he's got a bit of an obsession about the past.
